Enlarged heart condition is basically known as Cardiomegaly which is not a disease, but one of the major symptoms of a disease. Having an enlarged heart can result in heart failure because of its inability to pump blood effectively throughout the body it is usually the result of a condition that makes the heart work harder than it should. In some cases it prevents the heart from relaxing and filling with blood as it normally should. An x-ray reveals the size of the enlarged heart which is generally which is a little oversize than original. It is also possible that damage from a heart attack an irregular heartbeat or even a condition that you are born with can cause your heart to enlarge. Types of an Enlarged Heart:
1. Cardiomyopathy – a disease of the heart
2. Anaemia – where there is a lack of healthy red blood cells to carry an adequate amount of oxygen around your body
3. Hypertension or high blood pressure – this occurs when the heart pushes blood through the arteries is too high
4. Pregnancy – an enlarged heart can develop around the time of delivery
5. Kidney disease – if it requires dialysis
6. Damaged or Abnormal Heart Valves
Symptoms of an Enlarged Heart: There are some cases where an enlarged heart is asymptomatic has no symptoms. When sometimes the symptoms do occur the heart fails to pump blood efficiently to the heart this may lead to a syndrome known as congestive heart failure.
Symptoms may include: Breathing problems Shortness of breath and fatigue, Swelling of the lower extremities , Weight gain ,Irregular heartbeats , Chest pain, Leg swelling, Fainting.
